Adel & District Horticultural Society

Adel and District Horticutural Socity’s Autumn Flower and Vegetable Show.

On a cold wet Saturday afternoon, Adel gardeners dug out their umbrellas and set off to the Adel Methodist Church Hall for the Adel Horticultural Society’s Autumn Flower & Vegetable Show. On arrival they left their soggy umbrellas in the entrance and entered a hall, awash with colour from the flowers and floral art arrangements, to be met by our friendly door stewards who couldn’t resist  the gentle aroma of freshly baked bread, cakes and biscuits that wafted through from the display of produce and preserves as well as the Gill’s famous Tea Room.

Much hard work goes into producing such a splendid display, not least the creation of the Floral Art classes which takes place at the hall on Friday evening / Saturday morning.

Entries in all classes were up on previous years.  They included a magnificent array of:

Fruit and Vegetables

Floral Art & Displays

The judges commented on the varied range of entries in each class and the friendly informal atmosphere of this event which they enjoy attending each year.

Prizes were presented this year by our new President Martin Walker.

Our next show will be in the spring, why not enter, you will be surprised how easy it is and to find a suitable class for your exhibit. You
will receive a warm welcome from our show secretary and her enthusiastic team who will supply you with the schedule and entry form, which should be returned by the Thursday evening prior to the show. Look out for the posters in March for details.

If not entering why not simply come along on the day, meet the members, view the displays, have cup of tea and cake in our refreshment room and buy a plant from the plant stall to remind you of your visit.
